KerstinausTrier22 Oct 2015 10:23Hello everyone,
We want to expand our old Besta combination. During the planning, a few issues came up:
1. For the 128 cm (50 inch) cabinets, it says they should only be placed on the floor and not mounted on the wall. Is it possible to place one on top of a smaller cabinet? That’s how we did it with our existing setup.
2. If stacking them is not possible, can the doors be positioned so that they cover multiple cabinets at once? For example, could one large door cover part of the bigger cabinet and a smaller cabinet as well? That way, I could at least keep the look. In my opinion, this should work since the doors are mounted in front of the cabinet frames. I hope this makes sense.
3. Do the new cabinet frames no longer come with shelves, and do these need to be purchased separately?
I hope you can help me. We want to plan in advance, and I will be visiting without my husband, so we need to know how it works beforehand. Also, my nearest IKEA is in Belgium, so there might be some language challenges if I need staff assistance.
Thanks in advance for your help!

1. Yes, if the little one is standing on the floor.

3. Yes.
In principle, any cabinet carcass can be mounted on the wall, regardless of its size. However, this is not officially approved by IKEA, as a 128cm (50 inch) or 192cm (75 inch) carcass can be heavily loaded, and depending on the load, the cabinet may not support the weight. You need to have some craftsmanship skills to invisibly support a large carcass from below in a way that makes wall mounting possible. This is done entirely at your own risk and responsibility. You should know what you are doing.
