Thomas198016 Jan 2018 13:11Hello,
we want to have a precast concrete garage installed by a major German manufacturer. It will be 7 m by 3 m (23 ft by 10 ft) with a height of 2.5 m (8 ft).
Is it possible to install standard sectional doors ourselves in the openings? The door opening is 2.19 m (7 ft 2 in) high and 2.83 m (9 ft 3 in) wide.
I would also like to install the two planned doors myself. They are 1 m by 2 m (3 ft 3 in by 6 ft 6 in). For these, I am considering using simple side entrance doors from a hardware store.
Thanks for your advice.

The opening for the door is 2.19 meters (7.2 feet) high and 2.83 meters (9.3 feet) wide.
I would also like to install the two planned doors myself. (1 m x 2 m (3.3 ft x 6.6 ft)). For these, I would consider using simple side entrance doors from the hardware store.
Thanks for your tipsI don’t know the price difference between having doors and a gate and not having them... but with a width of 2.83 meters (9.3 feet), you won’t find any standard models at the hardware store.
We built our garage ourselves, so we also installed the gate, doors, and windows on our own.
We paid 229 euros for our white steel door at the hardware store. A side entrance door would have been even cheaper... the window, measuring 1.0 m x 1.0 m (3.3 ft x 3.3 ft), cost around 120 euros.
As I said, the garage door was only available to order through the hardware store. The standard width is apparently up to 2.50 meters (8.2 feet). We also wanted a sectional door, not a tilt-up door. We ended up ordering ours from Poland and had it installed. The total cost was 1,600 euros for a 2.75 m x 2.15 m (9 ft x 7 ft) door. About 300 euros of that was installation... you could have done it yourself, but it took two people the entire morning (around 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.).
So the offer would have had to be more than 2,000 euros for us to save money by not doing it ourselves.
