Hello everyone,

I am currently gathering the components for our bathroom, and the prices really take you by surprise. I just checked online at Reuter. A double vanity with a cabinet underneath, without faucets, doesn’t go for less than 1200 euros (about 1300 USD), and that’s without a bathtub, mirror cabinet, or anything else...

On the internet, I’ve found other offers sometimes 50% below the prices of well-known suppliers.

What has been your experience? Are affordable (not cheap) items good enough, and where in Munich can one get advice without being pushed to buy the most expensive options?

Thanks

I think this is a difficult question to answer. Higher price usually means better quality. But I believe you can also be happy with a sink from a practical supplier. Buy what fits your budget.

The background to your question might be important to better assess it. Was the supplier specified by the general contractor? Are you planning to install the bathroom as a DIY project?

Hello everyone,

No, the delivery date is not fixed. We are working with architects and are currently gathering quotes. The installer now wants specific products from us. So, to get an idea of the prices, we have started looking around.

Regarding quality, I wouldn’t say that a higher price always means better quality. My only issue is spending a handy 1200–1300 euros (around $1300–1400) for a base cabinet with a large countertop basin from a well-known manufacturer, excluding faucets.

The really cheap online offers for 450 euros (about $480) do exist, but those aren’t necessary either. For a cabinet (1.30 m (51 inches) wide) with two separate basins and faucets, I’d spend around 1000 euros (about $1050). That’s reasonable if the quality is good. But where do you find something like that?

Hello!

In our previous condominium, the toilet, sink, and bathtub were from a big-box store – and the first things to cause problems were the quite expensive Hans Grohe fixtures from the specialist retailer.

Also: If your aftershave spills in the morning, it won’t be too costly.

I still haven’t found bathroom furniture that is both good quality and affordable!

Reuter is great for getting an overview. However, the local plumbing specialist retailer (who also sells to private customers) offers much better prices.

Best regards,

Unfortunately, this can happen – usually with the cheap home improvement store products. However, Grohe has excellent customer service and often resolves many issues as a goodwill gesture.

By the way, washbasins purchased from specialist dealers handle such mishaps much better.

There are several options… A well-known Swedish furniture retailer has recently released quite attractive and reasonably priced bathroom furniture in their catalog. Major furniture stores also offer very attractive special deals during model changes, and there are smaller franchise stores that have ‘Bettstatt’ in their name.

This supplier is not really affordable, except during model change sales, because they publish the final customer price on their website. Naturally, compared to that, the local specialist dealers are always more competitively priced. Additionally, depending on the volume of an order, the local dealers can secure better purchasing prices and therefore offer customers more attractive sales prices.

And… supporting the local specialist dealers is beneficial in many ways for the region and also advantageous for you as a customer in case of emergencies, which mostly happen on weekends and public holidays.
