Hello, I’m Christina (new to the forum)!
We are currently building a house and, once the project is completed, are considering adding a pool in the garden. What are your experiences? Can it be done as a DIY project? What type of heating have you chosen? How did it go for you?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Christina

It’s not that bad. We still use an above-ground pool. Every few weeks (depending on temperature and usage), we add a tablet, and that’s it. The generously sized filtration system runs for 2 hours daily. This is enough to comfortably manage through the summer.
For a larger pool, you definitely need to put in more effort. There’s simply too much water to handle.
Alternatively, you can carefully consider the size. Does the pool need to be suitable for swimming, or is it mainly for splashing around, making a round, built-in steel tub pool with a 4m (13 feet) diameter and 1.20m (4 feet) depth sufficient?

Thank you for your information!
Participating directly is not possible right now due to the current increase in construction costs. An outdoor pool will probably be realized in about 10 years.
We are considering a standard size—approximately 800x400x150 cm (315x157x59 inches). Ideally, it would already include a heat pump and a counter-current system. The equipment needs to be housed outside (e.g., in a pool house).
Our current building services are not designed for pool water treatment. Therefore, the infrastructure for the pool technology must be completely separate from the house systems.
Would you recommend having underground cables and fresh water as well as wastewater connections installed in advance? Does anyone know what costs to expect?

I know someone who built a pool for 10,000-15,000 Euros (around 11,000-16,500 USD) – it took about a year of DIY work, very labor-intensive – the liner leaked, and so on. They keep talking about what needs to be fixed or redone on the pool. Fun fact: They live only 200 meters (650 feet) as the crow flies from the local outdoor swimming pool, where a day ticket costs less than 5 Euros (about 5.50 USD). Everyone can draw their own conclusions 😀If you know what you’re doing and do it properly, it can be really great. It’s not about the 5 Euro day ticket or the 15,000 Euro pool.
