Hi everyone

I hope to find some people here who can help me plan our carport.

We bought a house last summer. Next to the house is a driveway that is 3 meters wide (10 feet) before the neighbor’s property begins. I want to build a carport there. I am thinking of an attached carport. I would also prefer one made of aluminum.

Is the offer reasonable, or should I invest more? Is there a general price limit for a decent carport? I feel like this offer is already close to my budget limit...

What I like is that it is made of aluminum and therefore low-maintenance, that it includes the downspout and gutter, and so on. It seems like a good overall package to me.

The carport would be located northeast of the house. In my opinion, that is not the side exposed to the worst weather. I’m not exactly sure about the soil conditions but I think it’s rather clayey. A building permit / planning permission should be possible since the previous owners also had a carport on that spot. For the offered model, I would like to mount the side without posts to the house, because otherwise I would worry that it might swing in the wind and knock against the house wall... But I still have absolutely zero knowledge about the whole topic...

Are there any specific things I should pay attention to?

I hope you can shed some light on this!

Thanks and best regards,
etchen

For a "proper" carport – by which I mean not simple DIY or lumber yard kits – we have prices ranging from 8,000 to 12,000 euros. The size is 3 x 6 meters (about 10 x 20 feet) plus an attached storage shed of approximately 2 x 3 meters (about 7 x 10 feet). One side is clad with wooden panels. It is a classic design with 4 or 6 supports, soundproofing coating on the underside of the roof, and glass inserts in the roof to allow more light. Prices include installation but exclude foundation work.
The provider is, for example, Grafen.

Attention: Barrel roof is not permitted everywhere! Check the zoning plan / building permit requirements!

Hmm, okay

What would you recommend within my budget? I basically just need a roof over my car. I don’t need side walls or a shed. Is there anything worthwhile available for up to 1500 euros (about $1600)?

As I said, I’m starting from scratch. Maybe you know some helpful websites where I can learn more. (When I search online, I mostly just find manufacturer advertising pages...)

I’ll join in again… I’m facing the same problem now and researching online.

We also want a nice carport – the building permit / planning permission for the edge development for a small 3 x 5 meter (10 x 16 feet) carport is already approved.
Since we have external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS), an attached carport is not an option, so it has to be freestanding. No storage room is needed, nor side panels. No fancy parapets either (doesn’t match the house).

Now the question is: what is better, aluminum or wood?

The internet mostly only shows suppliers who naturally advertise themselves.
I’m currently getting quotes, and it turns out wood (glulam) is not necessarily cheaper than aluminum.
The foundation and assembly costs are huge, so I’m also requesting a quote for a kit.
Maybe someone can be found on MyHammer to do the rest. I just don’t know if the companies on MyHammer are reliable.

@TE: of course you can get a carport with the home improvement store for 300 bucks, but that will be without foundation and installation. You can assemble it yourself, but then additional things like rainwater drainage, parapet, wood stain, etc. come into play. Pressure-treated wood also doesn’t look very attractive.

Without installation and foundation, I’m now estimating about 3000 €…!

Oh, right, I almost forgot: the cheap offers are not very durable anyway, especially when I think about the thin posts.
