Hello, I am Stefan and new here. I have built an unheated hall. It is made of Ytong blocks. Inside, I have now installed drywall panels on the walls. Now I would like to paint the walls. Can I use regular wall paint for this?

Thank you
Best regards
Stefan

Hi Stefano,

I’ve also rented a hall myself and can help you a bit here.
Yes, with drywall panels, there are quite a few things to consider! I wouldn’t recommend just starting to paint without preparation.
The best approach is as follows: First, all joints and screw holes should be properly filled and smoothed. Also, apply at least two primer coats using a deep primer, applied with a brush, roller, or masonry brush. If you plan to wallpaper later, an additional coat with wallpaper primer should be applied beforehand. After filling and cleaning, you should use a painter’s fleece to cover any uneven spots.

@Ruediger...
Where is the painter’s fleece supposed to go???

@Stefan...
Are the gypsum boards installed on the wall with setting plaster? Since the room is unheated, I assume it will be used as a hobby or storage room. After filling and sanding the joints, just use a standard wall paint and that should be fine.
