Hello,
I’m wondering what to do. We are currently building a semi-detached house and will soon start planning the electrical installations.
What would you do for the outdoor light—constant power or a toggle switch inside?
Should we simply get a smart outdoor light with a motion detector and light sensor? Do such products even exist?
Or just have an indoor toggle switch to turn it on and off (plus motion detector)?
We might also want to add a Wi-Fi outdoor camera with light (for example, Netatmo) later on (or maybe not).
For a camera with a light, a toggle switch would be pointless.
What would you do? I’m leaning towards no indoor switch if there is a lamp with both light and motion sensor.

motorradsilke7 Apr 2022 22:32We have switches and motion detectors. However, the switch is not always on, but only when I need the light for longer than the motion detector allows. For example, when I go to the laundry area to hang clothes, or when I want to work outside in the yard and don’t want the light to turn off in the meantime.
For short trips, such as going to the car or motorcycle, the motion detector is sufficient. It is set to 3 minutes and only operates from dusk onward.

We have outdoor lights without a switch… and that’s really annoying for us. Just like everyone is writing here… every animal and every stronger breeze… and the lights turn on. On top of that, some of the LED lights have recently started turning off with an annoying flickering. To switch them off, we have to use the circuit breaker… really frustrating.

I do think that in some situations the motion detector might trigger falsely. To add to this good idea: Maybe just install a switch in the fuse box or have it secured separately. Of course, only if the fuse box is easily accessible.

Since the switch is usually left on anyway because the light or the camera with light adjusts automaticallyTaitv789 schrieb:
Or am I missing something?Yes, we have a combination: light with motion sensor, but we can turn it off using the light switch. And we do this, for example, at Halloween, Christmas lighting, or when you sometimes need to step outside in your bathrobe in the evening to take out the trash or something and don’t want to be seen.
