ronnystritzke26 Dec 2011 15:19Hello, we recently bought a plot of land where there is still an old house and a lot of debris. I will gradually clear everything and demolish the old building. We are planning to start building in about 5 years. We are both only 25 years old. We don’t have children yet, but we have already started planning; having children is definitely something we want before building the house.
Accordingly, I want to design a house that is large enough: for 2 adults, one bedroom for a child, possibly a second child’s room, and a guest room.
Is it advisable to build with a basement? We have a 2500 m² (approximately 27000 sq ft) plot of land, where we also want to build a double garage with a party room above it, and a workshop at the back.
Maybe someone has an idea or could recommend a good program to create a floor plan?
Best regards,
ronnystritzke

Brombadegs28 Dec 2011 10:19Hi,
I am currently drawing my floor plan by hand, as the software options aren’t very good. We are building a bungalow with about 130 sqm (1400 sq ft) of living space—no basement. It includes two children’s bedrooms, a home office, a utility room, and two bathrooms. We move the furniture around on the drawing (using pieces that are either already owned or typically bought) to quickly find out if anything needs to be changed or if the layout works as is.
Best regards,
Bromi

Dachübernkopf29 Dec 2011 19:18We have now planned 120 m² (1,292 ft²) per floor. We have a ground floor and an upper floor with two children's bedrooms and a large master bedroom. That should be enough. Our plot is also 2,665 m² (28,686 ft²) in size.
Luckily, we were allowed to make a copy of a building plan for a house that we liked right away. We visited the owners, and they were kind enough to give us a tour and immediately provide us with the old plan. 😀
