Hello dear forum,

So far, I have been a silent reader gathering some ideas here in the forum, and now our plan is at a stage where we would like to get some opinions or comments from you.

There is still a window missing in the guest bathroom, in the second child’s bedroom, and in the living room on the north side.

We are also considering whether the entrance area is spacious enough and if the distance between the sofa and the built-in wall unit in the living room works well.

Please take a look, and we would appreciate your feedback.

Best regards

What is that C in the master bedroom supposed to represent? It’s too narrow for wardrobes – overall, I find the room too large, with a lot of unusable space in front of the window.
Child 1 has only about 13 m² (140 sq ft) usable out of their 15 m² (161 sq ft), and because of the two windows, there’s no practical place for a bed – at least not comfortably.
Even with the basement, I would suggest including a storage room somewhere.
Why is there a 24 cm (9.5 inches) thick wall on the upper floor? If you’re using aerated concrete blocks, the 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) walls might not be ideal for soundproofing, especially since the children’s room borders the master bedroom.
No cloakroom? The hallway area towards the bathroom might end up quite dark.
The living room feels too narrow at 3.76 m (12.3 feet).

No post after 3 hours?

The design is nicely straightforward and minimalist, just the way I like it 🙂... except for your window feature in the living room:
What were you thinking there? Functionally, the angled position doesn’t offer any advantages—and I don’t think the slight effect justifies the cost.

Where will you put your wardrobe? I don’t see any space for a spacious closet.
I’d rather not even mention vacuum cleaners and brooms 🙁 ...

I would at least rotate the staircase so you don’t have to walk through the entrance and dirty area every time you come down in socks.

The kitchen definitely has too little countertop space. Count on at least 60cm (24 inches) of clearance for various kitchen items. Then a tall fridge, oven... where is there still room for food prep? Also, I’d miss having natural light at the sink. I would suggest an L-shaped kitchen or even a U-shaped one with integrated seating.

Regarding the windows: try omitting the middle west-facing window... there’s enough light already, but having three windows side by side is a bit dull—both inside and outside. Maybe add a strip window above the seating area that reflects the design in the kitchen... ...

I have nothing to say about the basement since I’m not a fan of basements 🙂

Overall, the wardrobe, storage, and staircase arrangement need to be reconsidered—which probably means starting over from the beginning.

Hello BeHaElJa,

So:
- The C is meant to be a walk-in closet, but only partially walk-in
- A reading nook plus some plants should be placed in front of the window
- A storage room would be nice, but we don’t see space for it on the ground floor > it will be set up in the basement
- We want to build with Poroton; we will check again with the architect about the wall
- We are also considering the wardrobe and the narrow living room

Thanks and regards

Hello Yvonne,

Thank you for your post.

The kitchen is fixed since it is already in place and still like new. Because we have a counter, I’m not too concerned about storage space; it’s working well so far.

A basement is needed, to serve as a garage and a workshop.

The advice about the stairs is a good tip, and we will take another look at the windows as well. :-)

Thanks and best regards

A distance of 3.76 meters (12.3 feet) between the TV and the couch is sufficient. Currently, we have 3.70 meters (12.1 feet), and in the new house, we will only have 3.90 meters (12.8 feet). BUT: the 3.76 meters (12.3 feet) is too narrow for the entire room; it feels too corridor-like and therefore uncomfortable.

I also find the bedroom too large. Where do you actually read? Really in the bedroom? I either read in bed or in the living room.

There is definitely not enough space for the wardrobe in the entrance area. How old are your children?

Even with a basement, I would try to include a small storage room somewhere on the ground floor. It’s really annoying when you have to go down to the basement for everything. I see this now in our house: batteries – in the basement, light bulbs – in the basement, drinks – in the basement, shopping baskets – in the basement, kitchen paper, toilet paper – in the basement, and so on.

Can the kitchen be expanded? Why are you planning such a large room for just a kitchenette? If you want to keep the kitchen as it is, I would rather plan a storage room where the kitchen unit is now, design the kitchen in an L-shape (this would only require a new countertop), or create a U-shape with a bar and remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room. The space is really wasted for such a kitchen.

In the basement, I find the two enclosed rooms impractical. I would try to arrange all rooms so they can be accessed directly from the hallway, without having to walk through other rooms first.
