Hello dear forum,

So far, I have been a silent reader gathering some ideas here in the forum, and now our plan is at a stage where we would like to get some opinions or comments from you.

There is still a window missing in the guest bathroom, in the second child’s bedroom, and in the living room on the north side.

We are also considering whether the entrance area is spacious enough and if the distance between the sofa and the built-in wall unit in the living room works well.

Please take a look, and we would appreciate your feedback.

Best regards

Hello Tagtraum85,

Personally, I like the overall plans quite a bit, especially because of the nice bay window.

Granted, the bay window doesn’t serve a particular practical purpose, but it looks stylish and adds a special touch to the otherwise quite straightforward building shape, although it does cost extra.

I would reconsider the width of the garage door – 2.26 m (7 ft 5 in) seems a bit narrow to me. For some modern cars, it might be really tight with the side mirrors folded out.

On the ground floor, if I were you, I would think about whether the doors between the hallway and the living/dining area or between the hallway and the kitchen are really necessary, or if open passages might work better. We deliberately chose to leave out these two doors.

I also think the bathroom layout could be improved. Is your shower enclosure built with masonry? That tends to block a lot of light around the sinks – the lighting from the opposite window is likely to cause shadows in the mirror.

Best regards,

Dirk

So, I generally like the ground floor layout. However, there is no enclosed storage space. Where are the cleaning supplies supposed to go?
In my opinion, the kitchen cabinets are insufficient. Without a pantry, you still need storage for groceries. I would rather remove the dining table.
Currently, we get all our groceries from the basement, and the vacuum cleaner is always left in the dining area, causing obstruction. We’re looking forward to this being resolved soon.
If that questionable corner in the living room remains, it should at least offer a view or a way to look outside. In that case, I would also swap the sofa and TV positions.
Upstairs, the bedroom has an enormous amount of space that nobody really needs, while the children have no place to play or store their toys. This is clearly shown by the proposed furnishings.

Food for thought:
Maybe consider placing the fireplace on the exterior wall (next to the bay window).
Otherwise, it might become annoying to always have to walk around the fireplace when you want to go straight into the living room. You could even put a fireplace chair in the bay window area 😉

Oh... that won’t work... the fireplace would then be on the low side of the roof...
