Hello,

Our single-family house is currently under construction, and the shell has been completed. TV and Internet are planned as follows:

TV: via satellite system for Astra and Hotbird, dish installed on the roof. My electrician will take care of grounding the system. The cables run from the LNBs to the multiswitch in the attic, and from the multiswitch, cables go to the individual rooms (maximum 8 outlets).

Internet: originally planned as DSL via the Telekom line. However, since only a maximum of DSL 16 is possible (probably insufficient for a family of five, especially as the children grow!), I am considering getting Internet via Vodafone cable (speeds up to 400 Mb possible).

If I mainly want to use Internet via cable and TV via satellite but want to stay flexible for the future—that is, to have TV also possible via cable and Internet also via DSL over the Telekom line—how should the cables and outlets be installed? Both for TV and Internet?

We had the same situation. In the end, we now have internet through Kabel Deutschland and TV via satellite. Telekom didn't even come into the house anymore.

Why bother?

The phone also works with KD, and that's all we need.

But I do have the additional basic charge, right?

We have both Telekom and cable as house connections, as well as a satellite system. There is a satellite outlet and an RJ45 socket in every room. You can watch TV via satellite by default, and if you want, you just need to switch a few connections to watch TV via cable or use SAT over IP or IPTV.

In this scenario, I would also distribute cable TV through network outlets. Is there no FTTH available in your building area?

DSL/Telephone Telekom.
TV via satellite only.
