ᐅ New Basement Beneath the Foundation of an Existing House

Hello everyone,
I’m new here and have a feasibility question. It concerns a house that already has a basement and a foundation about 1 meter (3 feet) thick. The house was built in 1964. My question is whether it would be possible to expand the basement below this building, more specifically beneath the foundation (which I think is a better option than breaking up the foundation), potentially adding two underground levels. At the rear, there is plenty of green space adjacent to the property, and behind that are houses we also own and rent out. If this is possible, how would you estimate the costs?

A foundation one meter thick (3.3 feet) doesn’t exactly suggest a trouble-free subsoil. Then, supposedly—with a horizontal drilling, FlowTex comes to mind?—a two-story (second and third) basement is to be inserted underneath the building, even extending beyond its footprint. No further honors, your questions (or whatever that’s called)—to me, this sounds like a first-class false alarm. A smile section is still missing here, thanks for that!
I find the idea appealing and interesting.

As I said, it was initially just a fundamental question. I was aware from the start that it probably wouldn’t be practical, let alone economical. This project is not intended to be carried out immediately (especially since it is not yet clear how), but preferably within this decade. It will likely involve creating a basement under the garden area around the house and possibly beneath the conservatory/garage.

Just out of curiosity: what do you plan to do with this additional (living?) space in the basement? The one on the second level wouldn’t get any natural daylight at all – what’s the appeal here?

The lower part is intended for an underground parking garage (also accessible to the adjacent rental buildings). The area above is planned as a large workshop, storage space, and laboratory. Besides, I have a certain liking for buildings like this.

Okay, this sounds like more of a "special interest" project than a typical single-family house with a basement :-) What size area are we talking about?

I would recommend an informal consultation with an architect or structural engineer who specializes in large projects to give you some perspective. Very few people here will likely be able to help you from experience.

Yes, “special” is probably the right word. The house footprint is about 100 square meters (1,076 square feet), and there is an additional 2,000 square meters (21,528 square feet) of garden. Not all of it should be built on (otherwise I would also destroy the root systems, and there are a lot of beautiful fruit trees), but roughly 40 to 60%.
