Hello everyone,

I bought a KALLAX shelving unit and am trying to stabilize it because it keeps shifting or wobbling slightly, which is especially annoying since I’m using it as a room divider. So far, I have tried placing washers under the adjustable feet to even out any floor unevenness. However, this hasn’t provided a lasting improvement—the unit still moves when pressure is applied or if it gets bumped.

My question is whether anyone knows of or can recommend alternatives to secure the KALLAX shelving unit permanently and, above all, firmly against sliding? Are there, for example, special floor fasteners, anti-slip mats, or other tricks that work well in this case? I’d prefer to avoid major modifications since I might want to alter or move the unit later on.

I would really appreciate any tips and personal experiences!

Try non-slip felt pads or self-adhesive rubber pads under the feet. They provide better grip on smooth floors than washers.

That’s a sensible approach, as major modifications can often limit the original functionality. As an alternative to washers, you can use non-slip mats cut to the appropriate size. These are flexible, reliably prevent slipping, and can be easily removed or repositioned.

Additionally, fitting the feet of the KALLAX with small rubber stoppers or silicone pads can provide extra grip. Some users also secure furniture brackets to the wall or floor if the shelf is positioned near a wall and a stable base is very important.

Optimizing the weight distribution within the shelf can also make it feel more stable. Well-balanced contents reduce the tendency to tip or shift.

That is a sensible first step, but I would like to add: With KALLAX, the construction is comparatively lightweight and the adjustable feet are relatively small and have little grip, which worsens the problem. It is advisable to cut the anti-slip material to fit precisely or use it in combination with a full-surface mat such as a thin rubber mat that supports the entire shelf unit. This distributes the pressure better and significantly reduces sliding.

Another option could be to use furniture floor anchors that are fixed to the floor. These are easy to remove and provide a good level of stability. Please make sure the floor is suitable for this (e.g., wood) and that the anchors can be removed without leaving any residue.

Finally, a note: A completely fixed shelf is no longer easily movable. If you want to change its location regularly, a combination of non-slip pads plus a full-area anti-slip mat is probably the most practical solution – stable but still flexible.
