Hello everyone,

I have a question. My husband and I are planning to buy a new bed, and we are considering the Malm bed from IKEA. So far, we haven’t had the chance to visit IKEA, which is why I’m asking:

How long is the bed frame? We have a recess in the room that is 2.09 meters (6 feet 10 inches) wide. Would a bed fit across there? The mattress itself is already 200 cm (79 inches) long. What about the frame length?
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to go to IKEA anytime soon. Maybe someone here can help us? That would be great!

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
luci

Hey Luci,

welcome to the forum!

The MALM bed is, I believe, around 210 cm (83 inches) long... but I’m not entirely sure. So it could be quite tight.

Maybe someone can measure it next time they go to IKEA? Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this week either.

Hello Luci,

If your niche is only 2.09 meters (6 feet 10 inches), there will most likely be problems. I wouldn’t take the risk. The bed is at least 210 cm (6 feet 11 inches) when assembled. Even if it fits, keep in mind that the wood will expand and needs some clearance.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Lukas

Hello Lukas!

Thank you very much for the information. We will probably go with a metal bed or have to place the bed the other way around in the niche. That might not be a bad idea either, as bedside tables could fit there then. We’ll see, in any case, thanks a lot Lukas!

Best regards, Luci

Malm has the issue that IKEA was very stingy with the width of the metal rails, so slatted bed bases do not rest properly and tend to slip through.

Which slatted bed bases are you referring to?
