Hello dear forum,

I seem to be stuck searching (and especially finding 😀) good ideas for tiling my guest toilet. The toilet is small and located under the stairs. The dimensions are 9à x 140 cm (about 3 ft x 55 inches) with a slope above the toilet (so tall men have to pee sitting down 😀).

As you can already tell from the floor, my house is decorated in a somewhat retro style. The neighbors call it the Escher House of the street 😀. Now I’m looking for something suitable, “Escher-like,” preferably in bright yellow. That matches best with the gray floor.

Do you have any ideas about what tiles are available and how I can best create a nice pattern in this small room? What are the do’s and don’ts for such a tiny space?

I’m a bit overwhelmed right now and can’t seem to find a clear or bright yellow direction myself. 😕
Small bathroom: sink on the left, toilet on the right, mirror frame leaning against the wall, plunger beside it.

White room with sloped ceiling, clothes on shelf; mirror leaning on bottom left.

Here is how we solved it: Rimless toilet, concealed cistern integrated flush with timber stud wall, reclaimed oak wood treated and installed from wall to wall, mirror also glued directly to the wall, stone washbasin, simple concealed plumbing fixture, plain clay plaster, full-surface ceiling light with photographic motif, tiles matching those in the hallway, oak door.

Bathroom with wall-hung toilet, wooden shelf, stone washbasin, cat figurine and towel basket.

Are the dimensions the floor measurements?

Floor plan: yellow background, gray square on the left, white rectangles, curved track on the right.

I would only paint the one wall yellow (or choose another color).
Blue: LED RGB indirect lighting
White: 5mm (0.2 inch) drywall
Brown: battens

As a splash guard, you could install a tile backsplash between the sink and the mirror, using the same tiles as those behind the toilet. Alternatively, you could paint it with epoxy.

Then set the lighting to change colors.

Hmm, why not go for yellow tiles! 😀

or use yellow light – spotlights placed selectively – these are widely available and affordable in stage lighting equipment from major music venues
