Hello everyone,
I would like to install a mailbox with a doorbell and intercom at the entrance to our property, but I really don’t want to run any cables out there. My requirements are:
  • 3 doorbell buttons
  • DECT connection for the intercom linked to the FritzBox
  • local power supply (battery + solar panel)

The distance in a straight line between the intercom and the FritzBox is about 35 m (115 feet), but the cabling route would be around 100 m (330 feet).
The second-best option would be to only run power there, moving the “doorbell mailbox” to the opposite side of the street, where it is somewhat less convenient.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Do I understand correctly that you will have three internet connections?
Is the phone service running only through your Fritzbox (so everything on your router), or do the children also have phones?
Wi-Fi is not a stable option over that distance with walls in between (unless you have additional access points).
So many doorbells are already out of the question. Often they only have one button, and you would need three of them.

DECT would be possible, but all the stations I’ve seen only have two buttons.
Was this overlooked in the planning?
Run a cable. If you’re willing to order, take a look at KlingelPaul (UK Intech).
Get three buttons and connect them to KlingelPaul.
If you want it to be future-proof, install CAT cable as well. Then you can later add a camera or doorbell station with PoE. The cables don’t cost much.
You’ll only regret it later if you want to make changes. Right now it’s still a relatively small effort.

Without cables, this will just be junk or something you cannot rely on. A wired Cat cable would be practical, along with, for example, a 2N Verso IP doorbell powered via PoE. It calls the DECT handsets through the Fritzbox using SIP.

I was already expecting not to avoid the wiring—no misplanning, just a bit of laziness. So CAT7 and 5 x 2.5mm² (about 2 AWG) for pathway lighting and "power at the mailbox doorbell." The KlingelPaul has some features but unfortunately no intercom function.
We will have two lines; the boys will share one. The intercom system with doorbell can be connected to a Fritzbox, allowing immediate call forwarding to the boys’ phones.
I have now set my sights on an Auerswald 90636, which can be connected via an A/B input.

Is it really 100 meters (about 330 feet) with only 35 meters (about 115 feet) line of sight?
Go straight for CAT8. Make sure to choose good shielding.
If you want to do it “properly” now, I would go for SIP instead of an A/B input.

Yes, the distance is that long because there is also a height difference of over 10 meters (33 feet), and I can route the cable more easily along the driveway rather than crossing the slope. Our Fritzbox is connected inside the house via LAN on the west side, which is again closer to the start of the driveway. Using CAT 8 won’t make a difference, but I can use it.
