Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!
That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...
Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...
The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.
After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.
The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Hello, good observation :-) The joint will be done later because the floors will settle anyway. Since I am a tiler myself, I made this decision here. The baseboard is powder-coated aluminum, which is installed all around. I’m not really a fan of proper baseboard tiles. The strips are available up to 6m (20 feet) in length, and it still looks quite acceptable without a drip edge.
Yes, the kitchen does still need some decoration :-( ..

@daniel1985ffo,
very nice kitchen, finally a kitchen that shows some color.
One small detail was overlooked by the studio: they didn’t cut out the end panel to the right of the dishwasher, specifically the plinth area. I would insist on fixing that, otherwise you end up with two hard-to-clean corners, and this kind of oversight is more common in low-cost kitchens.
Also, the oven is installed one height level too low; this could have been done better, including making it fit properly at the top.

I find continuous end panels that rest on the floor more attractive; we did it this way on both our niche wall and the island for all the panels. Nothing gets dirty there. And our kitchen definitely wasn’t cheap…

Then we’ll wait for your move-in and photos of the room’s height including a report on whether the table stays in front of the pantry door or how that door’s placement works out 🙂We’ve been living here for two weeks now, and of course, I don’t want to leave your question unanswered 😉
The table stayed there, it was just moved slightly away from the patio door and aligned with the breakfast bar. It’s a few steps to the pantry, but the everyday items are kept in the kitchen itself, so that works fine.
The limited ceiling height, or rather the somewhat compressed feeling, has improved with the furnishings. So far, living here has been very comfortable. Now the atrium still needs to be finished (already two weeks behind schedule), and then we’ll get started on the garden.

knalltüte22 Mar 2021 07:33I think it no longer looks "cramped" at all compared to the early pictures... and: Great kitchen, I really like some details (chairs, kitchen surfaces and handles, backsplash recess), but of course I’m especially envious of the amount of space 😉
I have a question about the lighting: Is that the "Lucide SIGMA" above the island? If so, are you satisfied with the quality, the light, etc.? (It’s one of my top choices for a part of my kitchen)
