Hello everyone,
I am considering upgrading my IKEA KALLAX shelves with laminate doors, but I have a few questions and would appreciate some experience reports. Specifically, I am interested in how sturdy the attachable doors really are, whether the material quality differs from the original KALLAX doors, and how the installation process works overall – especially which tools are needed and how precise the mounting must be to achieve a clean look. It would also be useful to know if there have been any issues with load-bearing capacity or warping of the doors over time. If anyone has already done this, I would also like to know if the laminate doors are easy to clean and whether they might swell when exposed to moisture.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice or firsthand tips!

To attach doors to a KALLAX unit afterward: First, you need to ensure that the doors are cut precisely to fit the shelves. The hinges must be installed exactly in the designated spots. Pre-drilling helps protect the laminate.
Care is the same as for any laminate surface: avoid excessive water, and wipe with a damp cloth instead.

In fact, after about two months, I noticed slight play in the hinges, which could be fixed with some readjustment. Thanks for the tip, that sounds manageable. I’m curious whether the readjustment is quite simple, or if I would need to take the entire cabinet apart for it?

If you like, I can also send you a brief guide on how to plan the installation optimally. I would definitely appreciate that. What are the most important points to consider during planning before buying the doors?

Also, you should always test the doors multiple times after installation to ensure both opening and closing work smoothly, without squeaking or binding. That seems to be the key aspect to make sure everything fits well. Thanks to everyone so far for the great advice!
