Hello everyone, I have a Kallax shelving unit and am currently considering whether the feet can be permanently attached using fabric tape. My specific question is: How long do Kallax feet actually hold up in practice when fixed only with fabric tape? I want to know if fabric tape is a reliable solution that can support the weight steadily over weeks or months, or if it should rather be seen as a temporary fix. Are there any experiences regarding how the fabric tape behaves under load and in everyday use, especially concerning wear or loosening? Thank you very much for all your assessments and tips.

Regarding your question about the Kallax feet attached with fabric tape: generally, fabric tape is not suitable as a permanent fastening method for furniture feet. It is a type of adhesive tape that offers some tensile strength but can quickly loosen under constant weight and movement. The adhesion to the different materials of the Kallax (wood, plastic) is not designed for structural stability. Additionally, contact with the floor causes abrasion, which significantly reduces the tape’s lifespan. Experience from similar cases usually shows a maximum durability of a few weeks to a few months before the tape fails or is damaged. As a more reliable alternative, I would recommend using either appropriate furniture gliders or original Kallax feet that can be screwed on.

Duct tape rarely lasts more than a few weeks on Kallax feet. Screws or specially designed foot brackets are a better choice.

I can add a few points that are often overlooked when fixing Kallax feet with duct tape. First, the adhesive effect: adhesives in duct tapes are not designed to support permanent loads – they react elastically under stress and lose their adhesive power over time. The surface also plays a role: Kallax carcasses are usually melamine-coated or made of particle board, which makes adhesion more difficult. Then there is abrasion: dust, movement, and contact with floors further reduce the adhesive strength. In short, if you absolutely want to use duct tape, you should realistically expect a maximum time frame of about one month before reapplication is necessary. As a recommendation, instead of duct tape, double-sided mounting tapes specifically designed for furniture or attachments with screws or clamp feet are significantly preferable.

I understand that you’re looking for a quick and practical solution for your Kallax feet. Your question about how long duct tape can hold them in place is completely valid. I once had a similar setup where I secured the feet with duct tape – after about two weeks, the tape started to lose its grip, which caused some unpleasant wobbling when moving the shelf. That made me feel uncertain. So, you can consider the tape more of a temporary fix. My recommendation, if you still want to use duct tape, is to choose a strong, wide, and high-quality tape, and check regularly to make sure it’s still holding firmly. This way, you can avoid potential damage and act in time. 🙂

Cloth tape usually tears after a few weeks. It’s better to use screws or proper feet instead.
