Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my KALLAX shelves from IKEA, where the doors scrape against the floor when closing. This mainly affects the bottom doors, which lightly scratch or rub against the laminate flooring. I don’t just want to place something underneath; I’m looking for a more precise method to lift or adjust the doors. Is there a reliable way to raise the KALLAX doors so they no longer scrape without having to completely disassemble them? I know some people adjust the hinges, but I’m not sure if that’s even possible with KALLAX doors. Maybe someone here has experience with adjusting or correcting the door height on KALLAX units? Thanks in advance for your help!

You cannot simply adjust the height of the doors on KALLAX units, as the hinges are fixed. Usually, attaching small plastic bumpers to the bottom edge of the door or the floor helps prevent scraping. Alternatively, you can apply a thin strip of felt.

That is generally true. However, some users suggest carefully loosening the hinges and using washers or thin shims to make minor adjustments to the door height and alignment.

Another option is to slightly raise the cabinet itself using small felt or rubber pads if the floor is very uneven. It is also important to check whether the floor is level, as uneven floors are often the cause of scraping.

To be honest, all the effort involved in fine-tuning is often a lot of work for little gain. IKEA furniture is designed to be affordable and simple – proper adjustments are usually not part of the concept.

You could almost say that anyone fiddling with the hinges is fighting a losing battle. A simpler and much more sustainable solution is to place the entire shelving unit on small feet or caster wheels, raising it so the floor underneath is clearer and the doors no longer rub. In my opinion, it’s best not to mess too much with the construction itself.

I had the same problem with my KALLAX! 🙂 I didn’t adjust the doors but simply stuck these self-adhesive felt pads to the bottom of the door. They are very thin and completely stopped the scraping on the floor for me – quick and easy to do!

If you have the shelf on a very smooth floor, sometimes it helps to raise the KALLAX shelves slightly with small furniture feet (for example, furniture glides with locks).

Try the felt pads first; they really made a difference for me. Good luck! 🙂
