ᐅ KALLAX doors do not close properly – What could be the reason?

OntofaHello everyone, I have a problem with my KALLAX shelf doors from IKEA – they just won’t close flush. When I close the doors, they either stick out slightly or there are visible gaps, even though I have adjusted the hinges several times. I have also checked that the shelf unit itself is level, which it is. What confuses me is that it doesn’t seem to be due to the doors being incorrectly mounted; the hinges all appear to be properly installed.
Does anyone have experience with what else might cause KALLAX doors not to close flush and evenly? What are the typical reasons for this? Is there perhaps something special about the hinges or a kind of warping to watch out for? I would appreciate any tips and advice!

Sometimes screws can loosen slightly. Then use a level to verify that the shelving unit is truly plumb. If that is correct, the issue often lies with the hinges themselves – KALLAX hinges are somewhat delicate and require precise adjustment.

First: Especially when the doors and the frame are properly installed, the issue is often due to hinge adjustment. The KALLAX doors have special clips that allow you to adjust the door panel in three directions. Sometimes a minimal correction is enough to achieve a flush closure.
Second: Warping of the door itself – particularly in older or humid environments, wooden doors can easily warp, causing them not to sit flush anymore. Also check whether the door might be slightly warped.
Third: Make sure the hinges are actually all designed for KALLAX doors – sometimes incorrect parts or attachments are used spontaneously, which don’t fit optimally.
If you want, I can send you a step-by-step guide for adjusting the hinges. I’ve done this myself several times on KALLAX and it’s definitely doable. 🙂

Here’s another tip from me: Sometimes the KALLAX frame is slightly warped or not perfectly square, which usually only becomes apparent when you install the doors. If all the screws and adjustments are fine, try rehanging the doors slightly differently—just a little higher or a bit to the side. Sometimes you have to experiment a bit until the door alignment is perfect.
Don’t worry, this happens to many people— IKEAs aren’t always perfect, but with some patience, it will look great! Good luck, and if you run into any issues, just reach out. 😊
