Hello everyone,

I am planning to set up several BILLY shelves in my home office, but I want to improve their stability because they can sometimes feel a bit shaky when fully loaded.

Therefore, my question to the community is: Are there any special accessories that can enhance the stability of BILLY shelves? I am not only thinking about the usual wall anchors but also other aids or tricks that can increase their steadiness, such as special feet, additional braces, or similar solutions.

I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Thank you in advance.

Yes, the simplest accessory is the original BILLY wall mounts. They provide a lot of stability.
Additionally, third-party anti-twist metal connectors are available to link shelf modules together.

This is usually sufficient.

That’s correct, and I’d like to elaborate a bit: For BILLY bookshelves, it is often recommended to use the original wall mounting to secure the unit. However, the following accessories can provide additional stability:

1. Metal brackets and connectors: These can be installed between two or more shelves to create a solid unit and prevent tipping.

2. Rear braces: Additional cross braces made of metal or wood can be added at the back, which increases resistance to lateral bending.

3. Adjustable furniture feet: If the shelf stands on an uneven floor, these help to completely eliminate wobbling.

4. For heavier loads, you can reinforce the interior with steel profiles or aluminum angles, but this requires some woodworking skills.

I’m interested to know exactly how you plan to use the shelves, so recommendations can be more targeted. How heavy is the load, and in which room are the shelves located?

Good question! I mainly want to use the shelves for books, folders, and some electronic devices, so they will need to handle medium to heavy loads over a longer period. The shelves will be in my home office, right against a slightly uneven wall. I definitely want to use wall mounts, but those can be inconvenient if I need to move the shelves sometimes — so it would be great if there are accessories that can make the shelves more stable without always attaching them to the wall.

I had already thought about additional metal braces or special connectors, but maybe someone here knows of suitable products or DIY solutions. Thanks for the initial tips!
