Good morning everyone, I have recently started maintaining my IKEA Besta drawers. I’m wondering if there is a simple way to oil the drawers from the BESTA series effectively, so that smooth operation and functionality are preserved for a long time without having to completely remove the full drawer slides or invest a lot of effort. I have read that some oils or lubricants are not suitable because they attract dirt or become sticky. At the same time, I want to avoid too much work, such as dismantling and complicated cleaning. So, is there an easy, practical way to oil these drawers properly and maintain them in the long term? Looking forward to your tips and experiences!

So, in this case, do we stick to the recommended cleaning (e.g., with isopropanol) before applying silicone spray or Teflon spray? Or is it sufficient to apply the spray directly?

For an effective and long-lasting solution, I recommend cleaning the sliding rails before lubrication. Dust and old grease residues significantly reduce the effectiveness of newly applied lubricants. Cleaning with a mild solvent such as isopropanol is straightforward.

Applying silicone spray directly onto contaminated surfaces can worsen lubrication because oil and dust tend to combine. For a simple method, the rule is: clean briefly, then apply a thin layer of silicone spray and spread it evenly.

This might sound like a lot of effort, but honestly, applying silicone spray combined with a quick cleaning of the tracks is really fast—and it’s worth it!

In my experience, simply wiping off the visible dirt with a cloth, applying the spray, and then sliding the drawer back and forth a few times is all it takes. It’s not complicated, and it keeps everything running smoothly and quietly.

A little professional tip: If it’s really squeaking, you can also apply the spray precisely to the ball bearings of the runner with a small brush, which brings even more quietness and smooth operation.

Keep it up—your drawers will thank you!
