Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of assembling an IKEA Besta shelving system without any assembly instructions. Unfortunately, I have lost the original manual, and I am wondering if there is a reliable, practical guide or at least a method that can be used to successfully assemble the Besta unit without fully relying on the missing instructions.

Specifically, I am interested in tips on the typical assembly steps, an overview of the main components, and perhaps advice on common difficulties to watch out for. Do any of you have experience or maybe a kind of step-by-step guide on how to assemble Besta when you don’t have a printed or digital instruction manual at hand?

I would greatly appreciate helpful, preferably structured answers, as I want to use the furniture soon and assemble it as safely and accurately as possible.

BESTA can be assembled most easily by using the numbered parts in the box and the plug-in connections.

- First, sort the panels and side walls
- Then, assemble the base, top cover, and back panel
- Use screws and dowels according to the visible drill holes

If there is no instruction manual, it helps to build the sections step by step without starting too complex.

Hello Gekuzey,

I’m happy to take a closer look at this topic, as assembling IKEA BESTA without instructions is definitely doable but quite challenging.

First, keep the following basic structure in mind:

- The BESTA units usually consist of side panels with pre-drilled holes for dowels and screws, back panels which are either nailed or screwed in, as well as shelves.
- It’s important to sort and check all individual parts by type and position before starting.

My tip for a step-by-step approach:

1. Lay the side panels flat on the floor with the holes facing toward the bottom and top panels.
2. Connect the side panels to the bottom panel by inserting dowels into the holes and securing them with screws into the recessed holes.
3. Make sure the bottom panel fits flush and is at a right angle to the side panels.
4. Attach the back panel – usually it is either slotted in or fixed with small nails. The back panel provides stability and ensures square assembly.
5. Insert the shelves, which either fit into pre-drilled holes or are secured with shelf supports.
6. Finally, install the top cover panel.

Stop occasionally between steps to check that everything is level and stable to avoid rework.

Common mistakes include:
- Choosing the wrong side panels
- Mixing up bottom parts
- Attaching the back panel too early, which can make access to screws difficult

If you encounter special connectors (e.g., Minifix or cam locks), assemble them carefully and patiently, as they can be easily damaged.

In summary: Avoiding confusion, sorting parts, and assembling in a logical step-by-step manner really helps when instructions are missing. I hope this helps you!

Hello Gekuzey,

I understand that not having the assembly instructions for the IKEA BESTA can be really frustrating. I've been in the same situation myself and would like to offer you some encouraging tips that can be especially helpful when working without instructions:

- Before starting assembly, try to identify and label all parts and screws, and link them to the different steps. IKEA components are often specific and only fit in certain places.

- Use simple tools like a spirit level or a protractor to ensure the units stand straight and stable.

- If you're unsure at any point, I recommend not tightening screws fully until the entire assembly is complete. This way, you can still make corrections if needed.

- Alternatively, it sometimes helps to download and print the instructions from the IKEA website using the model number, if you manage to access a computer later.

- Proceed slowly and patiently, step by step, and the furniture will come together well.

Keep at it, and you will develop a good feel for the piece.

I hope these tips make the assembly easier for you.
