ᐅ Is it possible to have a floor drain and a separate water line?

Hello everyone,

We are currently planning our house and kitchen.
We have two cats for whom we installed a "drinking fountain" right next to the sink in the guest bathroom. It has an infrared sensor and a separate connection to the water supply line beneath the sink. So far, it works well.
In the future, I would like the water for the cats to be in the kitchen, so we are not dependent on the guest bathroom door being open. However, I don’t want it at the kitchen sink, as the cats would then be on my kitchen countertop.
Ideally, I would prefer the whole setup to be on the floor.
My idea is now to have a separate water connection (similar to the one we have for the refrigerator ice maker) and a drain in the floor.
Would something like this be possible? Anyone have any ideas?
🙂

Well, not really, but strangely enough, they don’t even jump up there when I’m cutting meat. Instead, they wander around my legs and meow pitifully, but for some reason, they don’t dare to jump up.

It might be because my wife (she brought them home) was quite strict with them right from the start...

And it’s true that when you handle animals every day, you eventually become less strict about washing your hands.

However, when guests come over, whether I’m the visitor or the host, it’s different for me at least.

@Grillhendl and @evelinoz, that sounds great and looks great too! It gives me hope. 🙂

@Steven, I don’t quite understand the connection. My cats can access the kitchen no matter where the bowl is placed or if there is a water fountain installed, since we are planning an open-plan living and dining area. Otherwise, that would mean that everyone with pets would need a separate kitchen and keep the door closed all the time. Sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not how it works. 😉

But just like [USER=50284]@Tolentino’s cats, mine don’t jump on the countertops. Hygiene standards are really a personal matter. If people don’t wash their hands after touching their cats and before handling food, they probably won’t do it after using the toilet either. 😉

I’m simply a big fan of making things as easy as possible for myself. 😀 That’s why I have an automatic feeder, an automatic litter box, and the semi-optimal water setup in the guest bathroom. Especially the cat with kidney problems, who really needs the water, is a bit clumsy and is having some trouble with the current solution. That’s why I came up with the idea of a “water fountain” on the floor.

But from what I’ve read so far, it shouldn’t be rocket science. 🙂

Oh, I’m not sure if it depends on how the cats are trained. We’ve raised all of ours the same way, and our current cat doesn’t even jump on the table when it’s set with cold cuts or other food, even if no one is in the room. She has also never been on the countertop.

Then we had one who, when you were sitting in your spot eating, suddenly reached a paw from under your arm and pulled things off your plate 😳 you couldn’t even look quickly enough.
