ᐅ Is it possible to have a floor drain and a separate water line?

Hello everyone,
We are currently planning our house and kitchen.
We have two cats for whom we installed a "drinking fountain" right next to the sink in the guest bathroom. It has an infrared sensor and a separate connection to the water supply line beneath the sink. So far, it works well.
In the future, I would like the water for the cats to be in the kitchen, so we are not dependent on the guest bathroom door being open. However, I don’t want it at the kitchen sink, as the cats would then be on my kitchen countertop.
Ideally, I would prefer the whole setup to be on the floor.
My idea is now to have a separate water connection (similar to the one we have for the refrigerator ice maker) and a drain in the floor.
Would something like this be possible? Anyone have any ideas?
🙂

That's right. He certainly didn’t mean to imply that the shells could also do that or that my idea is silly. No, that’s what I meant to say, but you beat me to it...But on the topic: wouldn’t something like this also be feasible or more practical in the garden?
Technically, it’s of course possible in the kitchen as well, but I can’t quite envision it.
Basically a faucet and a drain in a corner? Like a kind of flush-to-floor mini shower?
Are there never small children visiting? A robot vacuum cleaner might also not be compatible.
P.S. I really hate cats, truly. Still, I find the technical effort interesting.

Grillhendl10 Feb 2021 20:29We had a floor drain installed right in the middle of the utility room. It was not a problem at all with underfloor heating or anything like that... so it shouldn’t be an issue in your kitchen either, since a drain pipe is planned anyway. You could still tap into the water from the sink (just extend the pipe further).
In our area, drains are mandatory in all wet rooms, but I have already installed one under tiles.

I also love my cats—I have lived with cats for 60 years and still do—but I’ve never heard of a drinking fountain for them. The cats used to drink gladly from the tap, although the current one doesn’t so much. She also lived in a different household for the first few years.

the water for the cats preferably in the kitchen,Hello Hausbau12Of course, that is possible. With good planning before construction starts, it is easily done. A drain from the kitchen floor to the basement or through the concrete slab is straightforward.
But a question: wouldn’t it be a bit unhygienic to have the cats in the kitchen? I mean, they also jump onto the countertops, and their hair is everywhere. I would see that as a hygiene concern.

Hello Tolentino
Then you have well-behaved cats.
I once saw that some friends’ cats jumped onto the countertop to sniff the food. The friend lifted the cat off and continued preparing food without washing their hands or cleaning the countertop. I lost my appetite.
In my experience, this behavior is more the rule than the exception.
