Hello,

I was working away from home this week and stopped by the construction site briefly this evening.
I couldn’t believe my eyes.
The main contractor installed the interior window sills, but they protrude by at least 10 cm (4 inches), and probably around 8.5 cm (3.3 inches) after plastering.
Isn’t that unusual nowadays?
That was common practice in the past when you needed to hide radiators underneath.
Now all the issues begin, but surely it can’t stay like this, right?

Best regards,
Daniel

Are there any houses built by your general contractor (GC) nearby? You could take a look there to see if the same issue occurs or if he might have made a measuring error and is just trying to make excuses.

Oh, that’s too complicated for me; I can’t just walk into someone else’s house.

As I suspected, he doesn’t understand the problem.
He has always installed it that way.
I told him I can’t accept that.
If necessary, I’ll have to pay myself.

I’m currently looking at my windowsill in the home office.
You are right when you say that’s how it’s done if there are radiators underneath.
And when he says “we always do it that way,” he means “with radiators.”

He should really stop and think; he has definitely overlooked the fact that you have underfloor heating.
Is the rest of the house heated with radiators? Did you upgrade to underfloor heating? That would also require changing the windowsill!

I wouldn’t tolerate that—and I’ve tolerated a lot!!!

The entire floor is heated by underfloor heating; he says he always does it that way and no one has complained so far.

Of course he says that.

That’s the problem with contractors. For our prefabricated house, this was decided during the selection process. We also chose 3cm (1.2 inches).

Well, we’ll see. We’re meeting tomorrow about other matters, so we’ll see how we manage to reach an agreement.
