ronnystritzke23 Aug 2015 16:24Hello, I have ordered the first plastic windows for my extension, Alphaline 90 with Veka profiles and Winkhaus hardware. Additionally, I have an aluminum door. Now I want to install them and seal them properly. I have already plastered the pipes after cutting the openings. The joint width is between 5–10 mm (0.2–0.4 inches) on each side.
I have read that there are sealing tapes and compressible tapes for this purpose. Which one makes sense and what exactly is needed? How does the compressible tape relate to the construction foam? Which foam should be used for this? I understand there are special foams for windows and doors. Do you prefer any particular brand, such as Würth or similar?
Since I need sealing materials, I would like to use the same for the new build house made of KLB blocks.
Best regards,

A waterproof compression tape should be used on the outside. I would not recommend using foam, as it can sag and tear; instead, it is better to fill the joints with mineral insulation. It is important to ensure an airtight seal on the inside between the window frame and reveal using airtight tape. This can then be plastered over later.

What width of the compressible foam tape should be used? The correct joint width is clear, but there are different thicknesses available. The window is 90mm (3.5 inches) wide...

The width doesn't matter much; what’s important is that it expands enough. This depends on how far the reveal is out of plumb.
