ᐅ Installing Cable Ducts on the Exterior Facade or Inside the Building

Hi all,

We need to retrofit roller shutters. Only exterior-mounted roller shutters are possible now, which is fine. Unfortunately, we can’t avoid using a cable duct for the power supply.

There are two options suggested to extend the power supply from existing sockets to the exterior shutter box:

1) From inside the house, a hole is drilled next to the socket through the Poroton wall, including interior and exterior plaster. Then, from the outside, the cable is laid in a cable duct, which is mounted on the exterior wall and runs about 1.5 meters (5 feet) up to the box.

2) The cable duct is installed inside the house, with the cable running up inside it, and then the wall opening is made.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to having the cable duct on the exterior façade, or are both options essentially the same and a matter of personal preference?

Thanks

Such cable ducts would definitely not be an option for me.

Hmm, the external roller shutter already has side guide rails anyway. If the cable duct is the same color as the guide rail and is placed right next to it, it is hardly visible from the outside. I would always do it on the outside in case the option of chasing in the wall is not possible for some reason.

Alternative 4: Make the best of the situation – use cables from Gi Gambarelli along with their matching porcelain holders for surface mounting. When it suits the style, it looks beautiful.

Why do roller shutters even need to be installed there? Personally, I am not a fan of roller shutters at all. What is the intended purpose? Darkening? Heat protection? Burglary protection?

Darkening and naturally heat protection, of course. I wouldn’t want to imagine how hot it would have gotten here last summer without roller shutters.

Have you ever considered shutters, if they suit the style of the house?
