Hello everyone, I have a problem with the back panel of my Ikea Platsa wardrobe. The back panel has partially come loose and overall feels quite unstable, especially at the corners. Since I want to modify the wardrobe a bit, I am wondering: what is the best way to fix or replace the back panel in the PLATSA system without compromising stability? Are there alternative materials or methods that are better suited than the original back panels? I would appreciate specific tips on fastening options, suitable replacement materials, or experiences with custom-made solutions.

One more tip: If you can’t find a suitable board yourself, a thin rigid foam board can also help, as it is easy to cut. It is lightweight and moisture-resistant, but the support is not as stable as with wood boards.

Following your advice, I have decided to replace the back panel. I will have 3 mm (1/8 inch) MDF boards cut to size and sealed. For fastening, I will use small screws with washers, and I will also add corner brackets. Thank you for the many helpful suggestions. I will get back to you once I have completed the project and share how it went.

That sounds like a very reasonable plan. It will certainly make the space more durable and stable. Just be careful not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the MDF.

Good plan! A quick tip: lightly sand the panels before sealing. This significantly improves the adhesion base for paints or stains. Good luck with your renovation!
