Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to solve the storage issue in my small apartment using Ikea Metod cabinets. My goal is to create as much storage space as possible within a limited area, without making it feel cluttered or impractical. It is especially important for me to design the cabinets in a modular and efficient way to make the best use of the available space – considering depth, height, and the interior layout.

Does it make more sense to go for tall cabinets with multiple levels or rather deeper cabinets equipped with lots of interior fittings and clever organizational elements? Are there any experiences with specific interior fittings that are particularly recommended for versatile use of the space? I would also appreciate tips regarding doors and their opening angles.

I look forward to your suggestions, ideally with examples of how you planned your Metod cabinets in small floor plans. Thanks in advance!

Can anyone share tips on how to organize or access the less frequently used upper areas effectively without constantly having to climb a step ladder?

Here are some proven tips:

- Use lightweight boxes with handles for the upper sections, so items can be easily pulled down.
- There are pull-out interior shelves or so-called “lift-up” mechanisms that can sometimes be used separately.
- A foldable step stool is compact and quick to use; in my opinion, it is indispensable for tall cabinets.
- If possible, arrange storage so that important items remain on lower or easily reachable levels.

Also, keep in mind to plan the cupboard from the start so you don’t always have to reach all the way to the top. It’s better to have slightly more storage space at the bottom and middle than “wild” stacks at the top. Good luck!
