Hello everyone,
I have owned an IKEA Malm dresser set for some time now, and I have recently noticed an annoying issue: the drawer slides squeak quite loudly when opening or closing the drawers. This is not only unpleasant but also seems like it could damage the mechanism over time.
I have already tried cleaning the slides a bit, but unfortunately, that did not help. Does anyone have experience with this problem? Are there specific lubricants or tricks that can be applied without damaging the drawer slides?
I would appreciate any detailed advice – including explanations of the factors that typically contribute to this issue.
Best regards,
Dijapin

I would like to add that older Malm dressers may have different drawer slide systems installed, which are less maintenance-friendly. It is worth checking the specific model directly with IKEA, as this can simplify the replacement of parts.
My tip: Check the dresser’s rating plate or the original assembly instructions. These often include designations or part numbers that are helpful when looking for replacement parts.
This way, you can avoid a lot of trial and error.

Many thanks to everyone, that really helped me a lot!
I will remove the drawers this evening and do a thorough cleaning, then apply silicone spray and observe how it performs. If necessary, I will contact IKEA customer service regarding replacement rollers.
The advice about maintenance frequency and material wear was also very insightful.
I will get back to you if I have any further questions.
Best regards and talk soon!
