Maik Richter3 Dec 2013 07:25Hi,
I own the Malm bed with the storage lift mechanism, which I assembled yesterday.
Everything went fairly smoothly. The bed has gas springs on both the left and right sides, which are supposed to hold the bed frame up.
They look something like this:
Unfortunately, after assembly, these springs do not retract, and even when removed, they cannot be compressed. So the bed is always in the open position.
Like this:

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a trick to it, or could both springs actually be defective? Unfortunately, the manual doesn’t say anything about this.
Best regards,
Nico

I have exactly the same problem. Did you manage to find a solution back then?
Thanks for your help

I’m really struggling right now; I have the same problem with the gas springs. Were you able to solve this issue?
Thanks

daniel.berlin10 Mar 2015 17:46Thank you, I had already read that post!
I’ve now solved my problem: we had tightened the three screws on each hinge too much. The joints obviously need some room to move. Although there are white plastic spacers in place, it’s really better to leave a little extra clearance. We placed the mattress down on the slatted frame before pressing it in for the first time and then pushed it down firmly together until the latch snapped into place. It’s only difficult the first time; after that, the gas springs operate perfectly.
So, this way the next person who googles the problem will know right away.
