For years, I have been a satisfied owner of the IKEA Family Card. Only recently did I realize that the IKEA Family Card and the IKEA payment card are two separate things.
How so?
It’s simple: When my address changed, I updated it online under the IKEA Family Card. However, since I couldn’t find an option to update my bank account details there, I called the hotline. They informed me that I needed to provide the new details to IKANO Bank by phone, which I did.
Nobody told me that I also had to update my address directly with IKANO Bank.
From my perspective, this is not clear at all when updating details for the IKEA Family Card.
Now, 5 € (about 5 USD) has been charged for returning the new IKEA payment card—and the card has been blocked due to the missing address update. Until then, my purchases had always been smoothly debited from my checking account.
Great service from IKEA. Thank you very much.

I think you have a small misunderstanding...

The Family Card without a payment function is offered by IKEA.
The Family Card with a payment function is issued by IKANO Bank. Basically like a credit card for IKEA, but not from IKEA itself.

The mistake is not IKEA’s fault, but entirely yours. Or do you get the charges directly from IKEA? No, they come from IKANO Bank, which is not directly affiliated with IKEA. So IKEA is not to blame. You have a contract with IKANO Bank.

Makes sense, right?

Call their hotline and ask if they could kindly waive the €5 (about $5.40) fee. With a bit of luck and by explaining that it was unclear to you that IKEA is not directly connected to IKANO Bank, they might waive the €5 (about $5.40). But they don’t have to. The bank is in the right. They provided a service which is listed in the fee schedule. Therefore, you can’t avoid paying the €5 (about $5.40).

No one, however, informed me that I also needed to update my address details with IKANO Bank.

It's obvious, right? When I move, I am personally responsible for changing my address with the bank as well. As I mentioned earlier, the direct debit is processed by IKANO Bank, not IKEA. You should have noticed this at the latest when you checked your bank statement...

See here:
Account holder:
IKANOBANK GMBH

That's how it appears on my bank statement. How is it shown on yours?

I have a Payback card, so you should be able to see that I was here... or not? After all, I was in Liechtenstein before and showed my Payback card when I deposited 5 million into my undeclared account. For that, I received 3 bottles of wine... Or should I show my Miles & More card instead?

And I will also give you the PIN for my credit card....

Dear people, either reconsider your approach to handling your personal data or just tell us everything we want to know, including your PIN...

That way, it’s easier to take advantage of you. Oh, and please include a confession so that we can’t be held liable. Greetings from the consumer protection agency....
