I still have some very old Curver boxes that I believe are at least 20 years old. They are indestructible, dishwasher safe, have great lids that close easily, and just work perfectly. At some point, Curver changed the design—the lids became two-colored and more oval-shaped. After that, closing them easily was no longer possible; it got much worse, nothing like the earlier version... 🙁
Since then, I’ve been searching for an equivalent and properly functioning replacement for those decades-old Curver boxes.
I was very happy when I discovered the IKEA 365+ containers some time ago.
At first, I was totally impressed with these IKEA boxes. However, I now have many of these IKEA 365+ boxes that have reddish stains inside. They once contained tomato sauce, goulash, or other staining foods. These boxes no longer get clean! Neither in the dishwasher nor by hand, soaking, etc.—all attempts failed, and the plastic is stained! Now, you can think about it—if tomato sauce can penetrate the plastic, what else might be absorbed and stored inside... onion smells, good, bad, and spoiled odors, and so on.... well, I’m not very sensitive, but the boxes definitely don’t look appealing.
What are your experiences with the 365+ boxes?
Does the name 365+ imply that after more than 365 days, you’re supposed to throw out these not exactly cheap containers?
Looking forward to your experiences.

IKEA-Experte17 Nov 2011 19:58Hello,
I do not have personal experience with the 365 boxes, but I can say that discoloration is more the rule than the exception with plastic containers. If it happens, it can only be removed with fat, since carotenoids are fat-soluble.
In the September issue of Ökotest, food storage containers were tested, but from IKEA only JÄMKA. These also did not pass the discoloration test.

I didn’t expect there to be tests for food storage containers! But there really is everything. 😉
As mentioned, the old containers were honestly used for decades without any discoloration! You can’t even find the old Curver containers on eBay anymore. Really a shame.
Thank you for your feedback.
