ᐅ How long does it typically take to assemble an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy the Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and would like to better estimate how much time I should allow for assembly in advance. I am mainly interested in the average assembly time—how long it usually takes if you are reasonably handy and have all the parts and necessary tools ready.

I am looking for experience-based information for both the smaller models (2-3 doors) and the larger versions to better plan the process. Are there significant differences in assembly time depending on the wardrobe size or features (drawers, doors)?

It would also be interesting to know whether assembling with two people is noticeably faster than doing it alone, and which common pitfalls or time-consuming steps occur during the assembly.

Thanks in advance for your assessments and tips!

Hey, I think the Brimnes wardrobe is a really solid choice for DIY furniture building. Sometimes putting it together feels like doing a puzzle, except the result is a cool piece of furniture.

For me, it took about 2 hours; I was working alone and took a few breaks to stay organized.

Important: Stay calm, don’t rush, and enjoy the process—that makes everything go much smoother. By the way, it’s more fun and faster with two people. But if you turn on your Spotify playlist, you can get a lot done on your own too!

To complement the existing information, here is a structured overview:

- Preparation (unpacking tools and materials): approximately 15 minutes
- Base assembly (constructing the cabinet frame): 30 to 60 minutes
- Installing doors and drawers: 30 to 60 minutes
- Adjustment and fine-tuning: 15 to 30 minutes

This results in a total assembly time of about 1.5 to 3 hours on average, depending on the cabinet size and number of components, assuming moderate DIY skills.

With two people working together, assembly is often 30 to 50% faster, especially when handling large side panels and aligning the doors.

Definitely yes! A small 2-door cabinet with few drawers is much faster to assemble than the "bigger version" with 4 doors and multiple drawers.

Also, the instructions from Ikea are sometimes quite basic, which unnecessarily increases the time needed.

That’s true, I often assembled the pieces while watching videos from others – this saves a lot of time and frustration.

My tip: A bit of preparation, including sorting the parts and having a clean workspace, significantly speeds up the process.

I once assembled a Brimnes with four doors; including adjusting and stabilizing, it easily took 4 hours—by myself.

That’s a good point. If you do everything thoroughly and work alone, the time can really add up. For most standard tasks, however, 2 to 3 hours is usually sufficient. But if you want to be very precise and have no help, you should allow more time.
