ᐅ How large should a garden be at minimum?

Hey,

I know this is a question that everyone will probably answer differently, BUT:

We are considering building a second house on an existing plot, but there would only be a small garden left.
We’re wondering if it would still feel like a garden later on or just more like a strip of green space.

Marking it out on the existing plot didn’t provide much clarity.

Dimensions: maximum 7 m (23 feet) behind the house, but 21 m (69 feet) long, although the length probably doesn’t make up for the narrowness.

Maybe someone has a similarly narrow garden?
I’d really appreciate any feedback!

Best regards,
Jessica

Oh, I see, the other way around. I thought you meant 21... Well, in our old house we had no more than 7 meters (23 feet), but only 10 meters (33 feet) in width.
You could also create zones with planting to give it more of an inner courtyard feel.
I don’t see any problem with landscaping the plot. Emphasis on the last word!

So, from the house’s perspective, relatively narrow and quite wide on the left and right sides? Do you have any pictures?

Oh yes, building a house like this would be feasible, of course already evaluated!

I can look through my computer tomorrow and send them to you.

Our garden is L-shaped. In the area of the main terrace, we have about 7 meters (23 feet) from the house edge to the neighbor.
Around the corner, from the house edge, we only have about 8 or 10 meters (26 or 33 feet) to the next fence. This doesn’t bother us. It can be nicely designed and is enough space for the kids.

So, the plot measures 21 x 21 meters (69 x 69 feet). The house is a semi-detached building in an L-shape with an integrated garage, allowing for a garden area on the side. There are still 4 meters (13 feet) behind the house before reaching the neighboring property.
The house would be approximately 160 square meters (1,722 square feet), relatively large, with an additional storage room.

A site plan might help – simply pressing (fitting) it in is not ideal. Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to the pictures today...
