AfifteHello everyone, I want to securely fix my new Ikea Pax wardrobe to a tiled floor, but I’m concerned about how to make the attachment stable and long-lasting without damaging the tiles or risking load issues. Are there special methods or suitable anchors that work well with tiles to safely fix the wardrobe to the wall? Additionally, I’m interested in the best way to plan the positioning of the fixing points to minimize the risk of tipping. Thanks in advance for any tips and experiences on this topic!
Hello Afifte, this is a very important and practical question, especially because tiles as a substrate present special challenges. Basically, I recommend using special tile anchors that are designed for combined load conditions. Generally, these are hollow wall anchors or expansion anchors with a large expansion head, which help prevent the tiles from cracking. It is important to use a suitable drill with a tile drill bit to cleanly drill through the tiles.
For the fastening itself, you should plan for two anchors per attachment point – for example, at the top left and top right of the cabinet, and if possible, an additional fastening at the bottom, if the structure allows. This ensures better force distribution and reduces the risk of tipping.
As a general tip: check the wall behind the tiles for a solid substrate (masonry or concrete). Only if there are cavities underneath do you need special hollow wall anchors. Otherwise, high-quality expansion anchors are sufficient.

Hey Afifte, I know your question well! I attached my Pax wardrobe to tiled flooring like this:
- First, I always use a hammer drill with a light hammer setting to penetrate the tile without cracking it.
- Then I use metal hammer anchors, which hold really firmly!
- Very important: Don’t drill too close to the edge of the tile, or it will crack easily.
- For anchor placement: at least two per side at the top and, if possible, another one in the middle to keep everything stable.
Sending you good vibes, this will definitely work! It’s a bit fiddly, but afterwards your Pax will stand rock solid!

I personally fixed my Pax wardrobe to the tiles and did it like this:Your experience is really helpful, thanks for sharing! I am also concerned about drilling into the tiles. Especially since my floor is made of older tiles that don’t seem very sturdy anymore. How did you handle the risk of the tiles cracking while drilling? Did you use any special techniques to prevent cracks? I ask because I want to proceed very carefully without damaging the appearance of the floor.

How did you handle the risk of tiles breaking while drilling? That’s the tricky part with tiles! I always recommend scoring a small starting point before drilling using a fine nail or a scratching tool (e.g., a utility knife). This prevents the drill bit from slipping.
Then: start by carefully drilling a very small pilot hole with a thin masonry drill bit (e.g., 4mm (0.16 inches)) without using hammer action. This creates an initial guide hole. Only after that, drill through the tile with the correct diameter drill bit designed for tiles. Patience is key here—better to go slow than rush.
It also helps to apply a strip of wide painter’s tape over the drilling spot to prevent micro-cracks.
Using these methods, I have successfully drilled even very fragile tiles myself.

- Pay attention to the maximum load capacity of the anchors you choose, as your wardrobe will weigh several kilograms (pounds).
- If possible, secure the wardrobe not only at the top but also at the bottom with angle brackets to increase stability.
- Use special metal or plastic expansion anchors designed for tiles, which have a large spreading surface to provide better grip without cracking the tiles.
- Before installation, check the wall for hollow spaces behind the tiles; you can carefully test this with a small nail.
This precise preparation will save you trouble in the long run. It is also beneficial to reinforce the anchors afterward with suitable adhesive for maximum safety.
