Hello everyone, I have a question about maintaining Ikea Hemnes furniture, especially in households with heavy use. My Hemnes dressers and shelves are under constant stress from frequent use and sometimes from children and pets. I am particularly interested in how to best preserve the surface and wooden components without damaging the finish, paint, or wood texture. Are there any special care products or techniques recommended to prevent scratches, discoloration, or material wear? So far, I have been using standard furniture care products but wonder if there are better solutions for heavily used Hemnes furniture. Thank you very much for your tips and experiences!

If stains are deep, you have hardly any alternatives other than sanding down and repainting. Consider this as normal wear and tear.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful answers! In summary, it seems that:

- Regular dusting and cleaning with mild agents is essential.
- Wax or oil protects the wood and extends its lifespan.
- Stains and damage sometimes need to be locally repaired, ideally with furniture markers or repainting.
- Using felt pads and protective elements preventively is recommended.

Does anyone have tips for ecological yet effective care products for Hemnes? I want to avoid harsh chemicals but still protect the furniture well.

Natural products such as beeswax or special plant oil-based cleaners are a good choice. They are both cleaning and caring agents and environmentally friendly. It is important that they are suitable for varnished wood. Simply test on a hidden area first.

Oh yes, beeswax products are great! I use one from a local producer that also has a nice natural scent and even gives a slight protective shine. It’s really enjoyable to maintain the furniture with it, and everything looks fantastic when freshly treated.

Besides waxes, you can also use linseed oil, which penetrates deeply into the wood. However, it takes a bit longer to take effect on painted surfaces.

I remain skeptical when it comes to natural remedies. They are usually too mild to effectively stop heavy wear. For high levels of stress, you will need regular maintenance or possibly replacement. Keep in mind, furniture is a consumable item.
