Konrad69Hello everyone, I’m thinking about assembling an Ikea PAX wardrobe in the bedroom on my laminate flooring, but I’m unsure how to mount it securely and stably without damaging the laminate or making the wardrobe unstable.
My laminate is a floating system, meaning it is not fixed to the subfloor, and I’m concerned that attachments like screws or anchors in the floor are not feasible. On the other hand, I don’t want the wardrobe to wobble during use or, in the worst case, tip over—especially with children in the household.
Does anyone have experience with safely installing a PAX wardrobe on laminate flooring? I’m interested both in how to secure the wardrobe itself and in ways to minimize stress on the laminate floor or still prevent the wardrobe from tipping. What materials and methods have worked well for you?
I look forward to detailed advice and possibly recommendations regarding suitable mounting materials or alternatives to wall fixing.

Hi, it’s best to always secure the PAX wardrobe to the wall, but do not screw anything into the laminate floor. The laminate must not be damaged.
You can stick small felt pads under the feet to protect the floor and prevent slipping.
The wall brackets from Ikea are sturdy enough; just make sure to screw them properly into wall anchors and the wall.

The issue with laminate flooring is that it is usually installed as a floating floor and therefore not suitable for directly attaching heavy furniture like the PAX wardrobe. It is essential that you do not use screws or wall plugs directly into the laminate, as this can damage the floor, compromise the underlayment sound insulation, and reduce the stability of the laminate boards.
I recommend securing the wardrobe only using the designated mounting system fixed to the wall. You should check for sufficient clearance from the wall, as screws may need adjustment in case of uneven walls or floors. Make sure to use appropriate anchors for your wall type—e.g., expansion anchors for concrete or specialized anchors for drywall—and install two fastening points per wardrobe module to reliably prevent tipping.
If you want to reduce pressure on the laminate floor, you can additionally place rubber pads or thick felt glides between the wardrobe feet and the floor. These help distribute the load more evenly and absorb minor movements. Under no circumstances should the weight be concentrated on small points, as this could cause lasting damage to the laminate.
I would be interested to know exactly how your laminate floor is installed, whether there is sound insulation underneath, and what the condition of the walls is. This way, we can provide more targeted suggestions.

Hello Konrad,
I’m happy to share a simple step-by-step guide that worked well for me when assembling an Ikea PAX wardrobe on laminate flooring:
- First, thoroughly clean the laminate floor to ensure no dirt affects the assembly or stability.
- Attach felt pads or rubber bumpers under the wardrobe feet to protect the laminate floor gently and compensate for minor unevenness.
- Assemble the wardrobe, but don’t position it in its final place yet.
- Install the supplied wall brackets on the wall according to the instructions. Important: You must not screw into the laminate or the baseboard (skirting board); instead, you need to drill directly into the wall. If there is a baseboard, you can either remove it, drill through it, or choose a special drill angle to bring the wardrobe and wall close together.
- Once the wall anchors are in place, securely fasten the wardrobe to the brackets.
- Then check with a spirit level that the wardrobe stands straight, and adjust the feet or pads as needed.
Common mistakes include trying to stabilize the wardrobe only with the feet or screwing into the laminate. This often causes problems and damage.
If you have any questions about specific steps, just ask!

It is also important to ensure that the load is evenly distributed when attaching to the wall. Especially with drywall, you should definitely use special anchors that can handle tensile loads.
Additionally, I recommend using rubber or silicone feet instead of standard felt pads, as these provide better cushioning and protect the laminate floor more effectively.
Also, make sure to properly align the cabinet feet, especially on uneven floors, to prevent the cabinet from remaining tilted, which can cause warping or rocking.
This will give you the best conditions for a secure and floor-friendly installation.

I would be interested to know exactly how your laminate flooring is installed, whether there is any impact sound insulation underneath, and what the wall structure looks like. That way, we can make more targeted suggestions.I think that’s very important too. My laminate floor is installed as a floating floor with a thin layer of impact sound insulation, and the wall is a load-bearing concrete wall. At first, I was also concerned about attaching the PAX wardrobe only to the wall, so I additionally placed non-slip pads under the feet. That helped to distribute the load and keep the wardrobe stable.
If your floor is similar, I would recommend this as a sensible combination.
And don’t worry about the installation — with some patience, it’s quite doable to do it yourself.
