Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Malm bed from IKEA and am currently working on securing the bed legs properly. I would like to know: How can I attach Malm bed legs securely so that the bed is stable and the legs don’t wobble or loosen over time? Are there specific screws, pads, or techniques I should be aware of? During assembly, I noticed that the pre-made screws and holes fit well, but I’m unsure if that alone is enough for a long-term secure attachment. Maybe someone here has experience or tips on the best way to do this, especially if the bed will be placed on a delicate floor surface. Thanks for your help!

It is best to always use the original IKEA screws, as they are precisely matched to the feet. For a secure hold, tighten all screws fully, ensuring they fit firmly. If the floor is delicate, you can stick felt pads under the feet; this protects the surface and prevents any wobbling.

Hello Maria54, your question about securely attaching the Malm bed legs is very sensible, as the true stability during assembly is often underestimated. In general, the included screws and threaded inserts for the legs are sufficiently designed. A tip: Before assembly, carefully clean the threads in the holes to ensure an optimal connection. Sometimes it also helps to apply a small amount of wood glue to the threads to minimize loosening due to movement—definitely not too much, just a thin layer. Additionally, I recommend checking the bed on a level surface after assembly and placing rubber pads or felt under the bed legs to dampen vibrations and improve stability. This way, you can avoid not only wobbling but also damage to the floor.

Always use the original IKEA screws

Absolutely, that’s almost always true with IKEA furniture! 😉

I once attached my Malm bed legs with replacement screws—big mistake! They were just a bit too short, and suddenly the bed had a small but annoying wobble.

Another tip from me: if you want to protect your floor, invest in good felt pads! They not only provide stable support but also let the bed slide easily when moved. And don’t worry, those pads last a long time and look great too. 🙂

In short: use the original screws, tighten everything properly, and add the right floor protection underneath—then you’re on the safe side.

I completely understand how frustrating it can be when a seemingly simple piece of furniture feels unstable. I have the Malm bed too, and at first, I only tightened the screws by hand. The result: after a few days, it still wobbled a little, which really bothered me.

Later, I carefully but firmly tightened the screws again with a screwdriver, and since then it has held rock solid.

It’s important to take your time to regularly check the legs, especially if there’s a lot of movement in the household or the bed is frequently moved. It’s not complicated, but small maintenance like this can really help you enjoy your bed for longer.

Don’t worry, you’ll definitely manage it! 🙂
