Hello everyone, I recently assembled an Ikea Pax wardrobe and now want to securely and durably attach the handles. My specific question is: Which screws or fastening methods are best suited to firmly fix the handles without them loosening over time or damaging the fronts? During assembly, I noticed that applying too much torque can cause the fronts to swell slightly or the screws not to hold properly. Does anyone have experience or recommendations on how to ideally distribute the weight of the handles or possibly use special washers? I am also interested in whether the original screws supplied can be improved with an additional measure to mount the handles more securely. Thanks for your experiences and tips!

Hello Aldolau! 😊 Your question hits the mark for anyone working with Ikea Pax – it can definitely be tricky! Let me help ease your concerns a bit: it’s best to use high-quality stainless steel screws that aren’t too long, ideally screws with a diameter that fits well into the pre-drilled holes. Washers are great for evenly distributing the pressure on the front panel, preventing warping or damage. From my experience, it also helps to pay close attention when tightening the screws using a torque wrench or a cordless drill with a torque setting – applying too much force is the most common cause of loose handles! So: good screws + washers + controlled tightening = long-lasting stability! Give it a try, it works really well! Good luck! 🚀

This is a crucial point. Basically, the original Ikea screws for Pax handles are sufficient if installed carefully. To securely and permanently attach the handles, I recommend the following:

- Use screws of a length that covers the front panel plus the thickness of the handle, but do not penetrate too deeply into the wood to avoid damage.
- Use plastic or metal washers to distribute the pressure.
- Tighten the screws with a torque of about 1.5 to 2 Nm (1.1 to 1.5 lb-ft) to avoid overloading the material.

Additionally, when working with particularly soft materials like chipboard, it can help to slightly prepare the screw holes (without drilling them too large, to maintain clamping force). Avoid aggressive screwing without guidance; a hand tool with torque control is recommended. This will help prevent swelling and loosening of the handles in the long term.

Hello Aldolau, to answer your question in more detail: Attaching the Ikea Pax handles requires some planning and care during installation. I recommend a step-by-step approach:

- First, check the existing screws: they usually fit well, but depending on the type of handle and the thickness of the door front, they may need to be adjusted. Sometimes a slightly shorter screw is advisable to avoid stressing the material.

- Second, use washers (e.g., nylon or metal) between the screw and the door panel to distribute the pressure. This prevents the screw head from pressing into the front, which helps protect the material.

- Third, if the door front is made of wood or chipboard, I suggest reinforcing the screw hole with a wooden dowel or a special backing plate in case the screw does not hold firmly.

- Fourth, carefully screw in with a cordless screwdriver that has torque control. Excessive torque can cause the door front to tear or swell.

Besides the installation itself, I have found it helpful to regularly check the handles after a few months—especially if the cabinet doors are used frequently. These measures will help you mount the handles securely and ensure long-lasting durability.

Are there any specific materials or handle models you need to consider?
