Gibau31Hello everyone, I am currently looking into whether there are alternative handles to the standard fittings for Pax wardrobes. The Ikea Pax wardrobes are quite common and come with solid standard handles, but I often find them a bit plain and lacking individuality. My question is: Are there practical and visually appealing alternatives to the standard handles of Ikea Pax that are easy to install, possibly priced similarly, and still enhance the character of the wardrobe? I would be very grateful if you could share your experiences or recommendations—whether related to your own modifications, specialized suppliers, or DIY solutions. Thanks in advance for your input!

It is important first to know the hole spacing of the existing drillings, since Ikea uses a standard measurement. Installing alternative handles is usually not a problem because common sizes and mounting methods are used.
Alternatives can include, for example:
- Metal handles in various designs, which can be found at DIY stores or furniture retailers
- Leather or rope handles, which provide a natural style
- DIY solutions, where you design and attach handle elements yourself
In terms of price, many alternative handles fall within the same range as the originals, but some designer pieces can be more expensive. When selecting handles, it is important to check the mounting to avoid damage to the furniture.

I think it is important to question to what extent the standard handles are actually bad, or whether the desire for alternatives mainly comes from aesthetic reasons.
This is an important point, as you often pay extra for the design while the functionality remains the same. Therefore, you should consider whether you want to spend the additional cost just for a different look or if you also want increased comfort or tactile quality.
Has anyone here tried whether handles with different shapes, such as ceramic or wood, are really better for everyday use?

I chose wooden handles, and I find them pleasantly warm to the touch. However, you do need to be a bit careful when cleaning since wood is not as easy to maintain as plastic or metal.
By the way, there are also handles with soft surfaces and rubber coatings, which I find very practical depending on the use. This might be a good alternative for someone who places a lot of importance on the feel.

I recently got some metal handles with a matte finish that fit perfectly on the Pax frame with a 128mm (5 inch) hole spacing. Installation was straightforward, and I think they look quite good. The price is roughly comparable to IKEA's if you shop around for affordable suppliers.
Are there any specific recommendations for models that are especially durable or robust? Since you might have children or frequent use, the handles should be able to withstand a lot of wear.
