Hello everyone,

I am planning to install IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in my attic, but I have some concerns about how to securely and safely fix the cabinets given the sloping roof. I am particularly interested in how to best adjust and mount the cabinets to avoid any risk of tipping or instability. Specifically, I would like to know what methods or tools you use to firmly attach the cabinets despite the angled walls, for example, whether special brackets or modifications are advisable. I am also curious about how to handle varying cabinet depths and how to properly level the cabinets when the floor or wall is not completely even. Perhaps someone has experience with using additional reinforcements or recommendations specifically for Metod.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice and shared experiences!

This is an important concern, especially with sloped ceilings, which are often underestimated. Some time ago, I installed a kitchen under a sloped ceiling using Metod cabinets and can confirm that it’s not just about securing them to the wall, but also ensuring a stable base on the floor.

What helped me:
- I attached the cabinets to load-bearing beams behind the wall, not just to the drywall.
- For uneven floors, I used precisely fitted wooden shims, which I leveled and fixed with wedges beforehand.
- Additionally, I installed a sturdy frame on the back wall that connects all the cabinets, providing extra support.

Sometimes, the careful combination of wall mounting and floor leveling is crucial. I admit this stressed me out at first, but with some patience and the right fixings, everything feels truly secure.

For the safe and stable installation of IKEA Metod cabinets under sloped ceilings, several technical aspects should be considered:

- Wall mounting: Always use the supplied mounting hardware and check whether the load-bearing beams in the sloped ceiling are visible or accessible. Securing the cabinets only to drywall is not sufficient.
- Cabinet adjustment: Options with reduced depth (e.g., 20 cm (8 inches) or 40 cm (16 inches) cabinets) are ideal for sloped ceilings to avoid unnecessary gaps.
- Use of additional profiles: Installing wooden battens or metal profiles as a construction frame on the wall can help distribute loads and increase stability.
- Floor leveling: Since floors under sloped ceilings are often uneven, adjustable feet should be used to achieve a level installation.
- Screwing cabinets together: Connect all cabinets using the original fasteners and additionally with small angle brackets to ensure mutual support.

Before installation, always verify the structural condition of the mounting walls and consider consulting a professional if necessary.

Additionally, it is advisable to fully assemble the cabinets before final installation and test their alignment. This way, any necessary adjustments can be identified early.

For very steep sloped ceilings, I also recommend customizing the upper part of the cabinets by trimming or slightly recessing them to avoid contact with the slope, preventing pressure marks and distortions.

Using corner brackets (L-shaped metal angles) behind the cabinets in the sloped area can significantly improve stability. They act as supports between the wall and the cabinet.

It is important to take your time with planning and accurate measurements – imprecise fittings can quickly lead to instability and cause stress during installation.
