Hello everyone, I have a challenge planning my Ikea Metod kitchen: How do I fit kitchen units perfectly under a sloping ceiling?

Specifically, I’m looking at how to install base cabinets and wall cabinets beneath a slanted ceiling without gaps, while ensuring the furniture remains stable despite the roof slope. I also want to know the best way to adjust the top edge, whether special trims or cuts are needed, and which angles should be measured to ensure a really precise installation.

Has anyone had experience with Metod kitchens under sloping ceilings? What tips or Ikea products are especially useful? And what’s the best approach if you don’t have access to industrial cutting machines? Any advice is much appreciated!

Hey Fuda53, this is a really interesting topic! 😄 Sloped ceilings can be tricky, but with some patience and the right tools, it’s definitely doable!

The key is to measure accurately, preferably using a protractor or a template. Ikea itself offers trim and finishing strips that you can cut to size – be sure to use these to achieve a clean look.

For the cabinets themselves: you can cut the tops to fit the slope. If you don’t have a professional saw, a jigsaw or handsaw usually works fine. The important thing is to work slowly and carefully!

Don’t worry too much, it will turn out great! If you want, I can share some examples later of how I did it in my place. 😉

Oh, you’re touching on a real puzzle here! 😅 Sloped ceilings definitely require some creativity.

A little tip I’ve used on similar projects: make a cardboard template and test it in place before cutting into expensive furniture pieces. It saves both nerves and materials! 👍

And keep in mind: even if the slope is irregular, Ikea Metod cabinets are modular, meaning you can often make small adjustments and still gain a lot of storage space.

Don’t get discouraged— in the end, the result always looks great!

Here is a structured approach for the precise installation of Metod kitchen units under sloped ceilings:

- 1. Measuring: Be sure to take accurate angle measurements using a protractor or digital angle finder. Measure both the slope angle and the height at several points.

- 2. Create a template: Make a template from sturdy cardboard or wood that exactly matches the slope. You can use this to mark the cut line directly on the furniture parts.

- 3. Cutting: Use a jigsaw or circular saw, depending on availability. The cut should be clean and run parallel to the slope.

- 4. Installing cover panels: Ikea provides cover panels that can be cut and adjusted individually. They conceal imperfections and improve the overall appearance.

- 5. Securing: Ensure the cabinets stand firmly. For sloped ceilings, additional wall fixing is helpful to prevent tipping.

Avoid common mistakes:
- Inaccurate measuring
- Not using a template
- Rushing the cutting without allowance for errors

If you have any questions about specific steps, feel free to ask!

The best method is to measure, create a template, and adjust the cabinet edges. For the covering, you can use the Ikea finishing strips, which can be cut cleanly.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

I have a detail regarding the sloped roof: it has an angle of about 35 degrees over a length of 3 meters (10 feet). My main issue is the combination of different cabinet heights under the slope – some are 80 cm (32 inches), others 60 cm (24 inches).

Is it possible to vary the cabinet heights and then adjust the fronts accordingly, or does that become too complicated?

Also, I’m considering using open shelves instead of the usual wall cabinets because the slope becomes very low in that area. How stable are Ikea shelves on sloped ceilings?

Does anyone have experience with custom front adjustments for different heights?
