Hello everyone,

I have had some IKEA Besta furniture at home for a while and want to make sure I care for it properly so that it stays beautiful and functional for a long time. My main concerns are how to best clean the surfaces, which cleaning products are suitable, whether there are specific care instructions for the fittings or hinges, and how to prevent or treat common wear and tear such as scratches or signs of use. I am also interested in whether there are differences in care depending on the material (e.g. high gloss, wood veneer, or painted surfaces).

Are there any users with experience who can share tips on how to keep my BESTA furniture in top condition without damaging the surfaces or affecting the function of the drawers and doors? I look forward to best-practice advice and practical recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Briefly my experience: The best surface care is with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Treat hinges every 6 months with silicone spray and tighten screws. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents, otherwise the surface will be damaged.

In my experience, small scratches on IKEA Besta furniture, especially on veneered surfaces, can be effectively treated with a color-matched repair marker or wood wax. Regular inspection of the fittings is also important.

A crucial factor is the correct placement of the furniture in the room. Avoid direct sunlight and damp environments to prevent discoloration and swelling.

Maintenance of the fittings is often underestimated – a small amount of lubricant not only ensures smooth doors but also extends the lifespan of the entire piece of furniture.

Hey everyone,

Just a quick reminder: Especially with high-gloss surfaces, the “less is more” principle applies. Use little water, wipe gently, and preferably avoid harsh cleaning products.

Always use a soft microfiber cloth for cleaning that doesn’t shed lint.

I completely agree with that!

And hey: who doesn’t know it – fingerprints on white high-gloss surfaces are a nightmare. Often, a dry cloth works better than any cleaner.

Even if it’s a piece of furniture, don’t hesitate to literally “caress” it from time to time – caring with attention really helps.

I would like to clarify Garry’s advice: UV rays especially cause irreversible fading on veneer surfaces. Therefore, I also recommend not placing furniture directly next to windows with strong sunlight or using UV-protective films.

For scratches caused, IKEA sometimes offers their own repair kits

These kits are specifically designed for the materials of the BESTA series and often include touch-up markers that match color and surface texture well—better than generic products.

In conclusion:
- Regular cleaning with mild agents
- Protection from mechanical stress and sunlight
- Lubrication and inspection of fittings

This ensures maximum durability and appearance.
