Hello everyone, I have a question regarding my Ikea Besta drawers. I noticed that they are quite noisy when opening and closing, which can be annoying over time, especially in quiet environments. Also, I would prefer a slightly smoother and easier operation. I’m wondering what options or tricks are available to significantly reduce the noise and make the mechanism run more smoothly. Are there any proven tips, modifications, or special materials I could use without compromising functionality or damaging the drawer construction? I look forward to your advice and experiences.

Hi, the easiest way is to use silicone spray on the tracks. This makes the drawers quieter and easier to slide. Additionally, you can attach small felt or foam strips between the drawer and the cabinet to reduce rattling.

I would add that cleaning the tracks also helps a lot. Dust and dirt often cause the noises and the stiff feeling. Afterwards, apply silicone spray, which is usually completely sufficient.

For a detailed improvement of noise reduction and ease of use with Ikea BESTA drawers, I recommend the following systematic approach:

- Completely remove the drawer slides and clean them thoroughly, especially the ball or roller bearings, which are often the source of noise.
- Then, lightly treat all plastic and metal parts with high-quality silicone spray to reduce friction.
- To cushion the drawer stops, use self-adhesive foam or felt pads applied at the contact points between the drawer and the cabinet.
- If rattling persists, adjusting the drawer fronts can help prevent them from hitting the cabinet sides.
- If needed, damped soft-close mechanisms from third-party suppliers can be fitted if the original ones are missing or insufficient.

This method protects the mechanism and maintains the full functionality of the drawers.

I wonder to what extent this adjustment can be done without risking damage to the furniture parts. Is there a clear recommendation on how exactly to adjust the fronts? Poor workmanship can quickly cause issues with alignment and the overall appearance.

The adjustment should be minimal, for example by carefully loosening the screws and slightly shifting the front by a few millimeters (inches). If the drawer front is equipped with adjustment screws, use these to fine-tune the alignment precisely. This requires some patience but helps avoid damage. Sanding the edges should only be used as a last resort and must be done very carefully.
