Hello community,

I have noticed some superficial scratches and minor damage on my IKEA Besta sideboard that bother me. The surface is melamine-coated, so I’m concerned that using harsh products or incorrect treatments might further damage the texture. My specific question is: What is the best way to remove scratches and light damage from the surfaces of IKEA Besta furniture without harming the melamine coating or risking discoloration?

I would appreciate tips on effective methods or products—whether polishing, special cleaners, home remedies, or professional solutions. I’m also interested in whether it’s advisable to try these treatments myself or if it’s better to consult a professional when the scratches are deeper.

Thank you in advance for your experiences and advice!

I’m curious about the exact depth of the scratches you have. If you like, you can describe them in more detail so I can assist you more effectively.

Thank you, Domau0, for the detailed explanations!

The scratches are mostly very fine; some feel slightly rough to the fingernail, but they become quite noticeable under certain lighting conditions. There are no deep grooves, just light damage and surface scuffs.

This gives me hope that polishing or gentle treatment might help. A touch-up wax sounds interesting—I will look into that.

Are there any specific recommendations for the IKEA Besta melamine coating? I’ve read that some polish products can damage plastic surfaces—does anyone know of a product suitable for IKEA or similar finishes?
