Hello everyone, I am planning to mount several Billy shelves from IKEA onto my drywall because I don’t have any load-bearing walls and want to install the shelves neatly and securely. My drywall typically consists of double-layer plasterboard, meaning two layers of gypsum boards on a wooden or metal frame.
I am mainly interested in which types of fasteners (e.g., specific kinds of anchors) are best suited to safely support the weight of the shelves along with their load, without damaging the wall or causing instability.
Additionally, I wonder if it is advisable to fix the shelves with an extra wall bracket or similar to reduce the risk of tipping. Are there any special tips or proven methods for different wall constructions, such as wooden studs versus metal profiles behind the drywall?
I look forward to helpful and detailed answers, thanks in advance!

If that is not possible, special hollow wall anchors such as metal toggle bolts or expansion anchors are the best choice. The recommendation of metal toggle bolts is correct; however, it should be noted that not all metal toggle bolts are suitable for every drywall thickness. Additionally, the installation of the anchors should be done carefully to avoid cracks.

with double-layer drywall, the effective board thickness is sufficient to hold metal toggle bolts securelyExactly – with double-layer drywall, the load-bearing capacity is better, but it is always important to check whether the supporting structure can carry the load.
I also recommend installing an additional support batten behind the shelf for heavy loads, if possible. This helps distribute the weight across the wall and reduces stress on the anchors.
