I am planning to move some of my Malm furniture from Ikea soon and really want to avoid scratches, dents, or any other damage during the process. Since I already know the material can be quite delicate, I’m especially interested in which specific steps you would recommend to make the transport as safe as possible.

I’m mainly looking for tips on proper packaging, secure loading in the vehicle, and how to best handle exposed surfaces or the partially painted finishes. Does anyone have experience with special protective materials or methods that work well for Malm furniture? It would also be helpful to know if you pay attention to anything specific during disassembly or reassembly to minimize the risk of damage.

The most important thing is to wrap the furniture well in blankets and use bubble wrap. Do not place heavy items on top.

During transport, everything should be securely fastened to prevent shifting. For Malm furniture, pay special attention to the edges, as they are easily damaged.

That’s definitely true. During my last move, I was really worried about my Malm dresser getting damaged because it means a lot to me.

Another thing that helped me was to keep the process calm. It sounds obvious, but I put too much pressure on myself and became careless – which caused a small scratch that really annoyed me.

Maybe you could share your experiences on how you stay safe despite stress! 🙂

That’s well-intentioned, but honestly: Who moves and expects everything to go completely smoothly?

Also, I think people tend to be too cautious with something like Malm furniture. These pieces aren’t made of porcelain. Of course, they’re not indestructible, but damage is often overestimated, and too much worry is involved instead of taking a pragmatic approach.

That’s exactly the point – conservative protective measures are important, but sometimes a strong strap and professional load securing can be more effective than hours of wrapping and packing. Once properly secured, the goods usually arrive safely.
